The minimum age varies, based upon Nebraska’s Graduated Licensing System:

- Learner’s Permit (LPD) minimum age is 15 years old:
- Provisional Operator’s Permit (POP) minimum age is 16 years old: Provisional Operator’s Permit (POP) allows you to operate a motor vehicle unsupervised in Nebraska from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight
You must have held your LPE, LPD or SCP for at least 6 months
A licensed driver that is at least 21 years old should bring you to the DMV office
When applying for your initial Class O Driver's License you must bring the following documentation to the DMV:
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Status, containing Name and Date of Birth and Identity
- Principal Address in Nebraska (at least two documents are required).
- Disclose your valid social security number

A physical exam is not required to obtain a Nebraska Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License
A photograph will be taken at the Nebraska DMV on the same day that you apply
After applying for your license, you are required to complete a DMV approved safety course or get at least 50 hours of driving practice, including 10 hours of night driving, and provide a certification form signed by a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old
