- You must be at least 15 years old
- You must provide proof of being enrolled in school
- You must hold the permit for at least twelve months before you will be allowed to take the driving road test
The 14-year-old permit is a very limited permit. The 14-year-old permit is only good in the driver’s education vehicle with the driver’s education instructor. For the 14-year-old learner’s permit, you must be able to provide proof of being enrolled in a driver’s education program from the school that you are attending and you must meet all other requirements. When you reach the age of 15, you must apply for the regular 15-year-old permit before your 12 months time frame will count towards being able to take your driving test.
You must provide the following (No Photocopies Accepted):
- A completed Application with notarized signatures of both parents or guardians. If parents are divorced, parent with custody must sign
- A social security card or official government correspondence displaying full 9 digits
- A certified Birth Certificate. Must be original or certified copy (No Photocopies Accepted), have a raised seal and be issued by the Bureau of Vital Statistics or State Board of Health
- If under 18 years of age, you must show proof that you are in school by presenting a signed Certification Of School Attendance form obtained from the school that you are attending. (Note: This form is not valid if over 30 days old.)
- Over 18 must show 2 proofs of Domicile. Applicants under 18 years of age may use documentation that applies to their parents' domicile
- You must pass the written examination
- You must meet the required physical conditions of the eye examination
Parental consent required if driver is under 18 years old
The requirements to obtain a regular Class R Mississippi operator license are:
- 17 Years of Age
- Complete and signed Application form
- Social security card or official government document displaying full 9 digits
- State issued certified Birth Certificate
- Pass the written and driving skills test (waived if you are over 17 and have held an out of state license for at least six (6) months)
- Applicants less than 18 years of age must present an education attendance form obtained from their school or County Superintendent of Education’s Office
- Pay Required Fee
The minimum age to get a driver’s license in Mississippi is 16½. All other requirements must be met

An intermediate license allows unsupervised driving from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. through 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and no time restrictions if going to and from work for citizens. At all other times, the intermediate licensee must be supervised by a parent, guardian or other person age twenty-one (21) years or older who holds a valid driver’s license under this article and who is actually occupying the seat beside the driver
To obtain an intermediate license:
- Hold a valid learner's permit for at least twelve months
- Present the same information as for a Learner’s Permit
- Submit the Waiver of Road - Testing Affidavit in place of the driving skills test
- Pay the required fee

Yes, bring a parent or legal guardian if possible. A licensed driver 21 or older must accompany you, such as a parent, sibling, relative or driving instructor
A vision test is required to obtain a Mississippi Driver’s License.
