Completion of a driver’s education program is required of all Class D and M license applicants under the age of 18. To be eligible for a driver education certificate, you must complete the following: Classroom instruction of 30 hours consisting of Massachusetts motor vehicle law and safe and proper operation of a vehicle on-road instruction, including 18 hours of instruction in a vehicle and including a minimum of 12 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction and 6 hours of observation while another student is taking behind-the-wheel instruction.

Yes, bring a parent or legal guardian. You must obtain the written consent of a parent, legal guardian, Department of Children and Families, or boarding school headmaster. Written consent must be given by signing the Driver's License, Learner's Permit, or ID Card application. If the person giving consent is NOT a parent, proper documentation of authority must be shown at the time of the permit test
A vision test is required to obtain a Massachusetts Driver’s License.
