You are eligible to get an Illinois Learner’s Permit when you are at least 15 years old
Once you have turned 16, you can apply for a driver’s license.
To apply for your initial Illinois driver’s license, you must be at least 16 years old and have no traffic convictions on your instruction permit for at least nine months. A parent or legal guardian must certify that you have completed a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving, including 10 hours at night. You must also successfully complete a state-approved driver education course and proof must be provided, plus proof of qualified enrollment in or graduation from an accredited high school or GED program (exceptions apply). Your parent must either accompany you to the Driver Services facility to sign an application form or have their signature notarized on an authorized form. You also have to pass a behind-the-wheel road test before getting your initial license.
