FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’s)
You are eligible to get a Learner’s License in Florida when you are 15 years old. Parental consent required if driver is under 18 years old
You are eligible to get your Intermediate License in Florida when you are 16 and over and meet these other requirements:
- Hold Learner’s License for 1 year
- 50 hours of Driving Practice, including 10 hours of night driving
- Pass Road Test
When applying for a Learner’s License or Driver’s License in Florida for the first time, you must bring:
- Proof of Identity (Birth Certificate or Passport)
- Proof of Social Security Number (original card or W2 tax form showing your SS number)
- Proof of Address (Utility bill or cable bill)
- Proof of Substance Abuse and Traffic Law Education course completion
- Complete the PARENTAL CONSENT FOR A DRIVER APPLICATION OF A MINOR form if you are under 18 and are not married. One parent must sign the license application. The form is available here: https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/71142.pdf

A parent or guardian should accompany you if you are under 18 years old, so they can sign the application. Otherwise, a licensed driver that is at least 21 years old may accompany you, but your application has to be signed by your parent or guardian in front of a notary public
A vision test is required to obtain a Florida Learner’s Permit and Driver’s License
A physical exam is not required to obtain a Florida Driver’s License
A photograph will be taken at the Florida DMV office after you pass the written test
You will receive your learner’s permit once you pass the written exam. If you are 18 years old or younger, you have to wait at least 12 months before you are allowed to apply for the road test. If you are older than 18, you can apply for your driver’s license on the same day you receive your learner’s permit
